Frequently Asked Questions
How do we reserve you for our event?
Once you know you'd like to move forward, I'll send you an electronic contract. After you sign and pay the non-refundable booking fee (25% package price), you're golden. For payment, I currently accept cash and check (new payment processing is in the works).
(Property rights, your grandmother's jewels, and souls of first-borns are accepted on a limited basis.)
How far in advance should we book?
Spots fill quickly, and I only accept 15 weddings a year to ensure that every client has my utmost attention. Most couples book between a year and two years in advance, but don't be discouraged though if that isn't you. Shoot me a message and we'll see what we can do!
Can we count on you?
Without question. I care too deeply about my clients and reputation to chance something going wrong. Our contract includes stipulations for emergencies, and packages include an experienced second shooter, briefed on timeline, contacts, and game plan for the wedding day.
Additionally, I carry extra equipment with me day of and all photos taken are stored in dual memory cards and offloaded to multiple hard drives the same night of your wedding. This insures that if a shutter breaks, or a card corrupts, your memories are secure.
Do you use second shooters?
Mid and upper tier packages include a second shooter. Aside from providing peace of mind as a day-of backup, a second shooter also provides coverage in separately located client prep, alternative angles during the ceremony and reception, and candids during cocktail hour while we shoot our portraits. All my second shooters run their own businesses and are seasoned professionals.
What does location scouting mean?
For every shoot I do, I physically visit each photo location ahead of time to estimate lighting conditions and plan angles. This guarantees that come your engagement or wedding day, there are no surprises, no stress, and we can operate efficiently and effortlessly.
What kind of equipment do you use?
I shoot with two Nikon DSLR cameras and a range of lenses, dependent on the lighting and spacial constraints of your event. Depending on how late you party, I may utilize on or off camera flashes as well. If something breaks, there's always a backup.
Do you travel? What are your travel fees?
Absolutely! Wherever you go, I'll follow. New England weddings (Maine, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT) carry no travel fees, while other domestic destinations include charges for 2 nights and flights. International events include charges for 4 nights and flights.
Do I get to download the digital files or are those extra?
I believe that what you pay for, you should receive. Following your engagement or wedding, you'll receive a link to an online shareable gallery with all the original resolution, edited digital files, available for unlimited download. While I do offer in-gallery purchases, you are free to download and print wherever you choose.
And ALL packages include 10 DAY DELIVERY.
Do you sell prints/albums/etc?
I do! Select packages include album credits to give you a head start. Albums are leather-bound, lay flat designs, with watercolor matte paper, and are archival quality. Covers are gold ink-imprinted with your names and wedding dates. Shoot me a message to learn more about pricing, which includes album design at no extra cost, with multiple proofs/revisions.
Prints, canvases, and even thank you cards are also available for purchase (though not required!) through the in-gallery store. Once you get your gallery link, just click the "Store" button in the top right to order and ship directly to your home.
Do you offer engagement sessions? What should we expect with that?
A session is the best way for us to familiarize, giving you an excellent opportunity to unlearn how you've been taught to take photographs! My approach can take a bit to get used to (it can be hard not to perform for a camera!) but once you get the hang of it, it's as natural as breathing air. To learn more about what I mean, shoot me a message! I'd love to chat about it.
How many images will we get?
For a normal 9 hour day, you can expect between 800-1000 images, including black and white edits. For a 60 minute engagement, around 150 images.
When will we get our photos?
Turnaround for engagements is 3 business days. Weddings are delivered within 10 days, standard.
You read that right: 10 DAYS, STANDARD.
Wedding photography seems pricey. What are we getting for our money?
This is an important question. Weddings are expensive endeavors, and you want to make sure you're getting quality within your budget.
While I'm most visible on your wedding day, my job doesn't begin or end there:
- Before you get your wedding morning coffee, I've spent a couple days traveling to and scouting your ceremony/reception/portrait locations, researching lighting, and shooting and editing your engagement. This batch of to-dos can take 4-8 hours.
- After the lights come on following your last song (Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" is a personal fave), I'll spend 4-5 hours that night offloading photos and making back-ups.
- The next day, 6-10 hours of culling.
- Then, over however many days comes 12-20 hours of editing and touch-ups, uploading, gallery design and delivery.
- All together? Up to 38 additional hours of specialized work outside of your wedding coverage.
Add to that the necessary insurance policies, equipment maintenance, cloud space/backups, second shooter expenses, gallery and software subscriptions, etc, that are critical to guaranteeing you an exceptional, professional, secure product, and that at-a-glance package cost suddenly makes a bit more sense.
